Gears are specially designed to fit this lens and is compatible with any standard 0.8 Module follow focus unit. The gears slides smoothly onto your lens and into your current lens case. They are made to spec and should fit smoothly sometimes they can be little small but there nothing that a little sand paper can’t fix with this. The gears do not have to be removed after each use although you can if you like.
